Cartwright Launches New Fleet
Of Liveried Service Vans
Date: 06 September 2011
The Cartwright Group has launched its own dedicated fleet of liveried service vans.
The new vans, resplendent with cut-away Union Jack livery, will be the new vehicles for the company's Cartwright Assist. Services will include 24-hour breakdown service, as well as trailer maintenance, servicing and product support.
The vans will compliment the large number of sub contractors that Cartwright use for its breakdown service and trailer servicing requirements across the UK.
The new service vans are based on the Vauxhall Movano and initially 15 of the Cartwright Assist support service vans have been ordered.
Steven Cartwright commented: "The new Cartwright Assist service vans will increase our customer and product support. As well as trailer service and maintenance offering to our customers."
Steven Cartwright also revealed that the Cartwright Rentals would be adding 100 EN1462XL curtainsiders to its fleet over the next 2 months. The trailers will carry Cartwright Rentals livery, the first time the company has used its corporate livery on its trailer rental products.
Cartwright Rentals Announces Opening Of New Cardiff Depot
Date: 16 August 2011
The Cartwright Group has expanded its national network of rental sites with the opening of a Cardiff depot.
The new site comes on the back of two other successful openings in the past two years - Avonmouth in Bristol and Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire.
The new depot offers a pool of trailers for purchase, lease and contract hire. It is located within Cardiff Dock. It offers a wide variety of trailers for long term and short term hire. The range includes tri-axle skeletal trailers and refrigerated trailers, single comp and twin evap. Also, step frame, double deck curtainsiders, tri-axle boxes and curtains.
With more than 5,000 trailers nationally, Cartwright Rentals is the first port of call among companies across the UK looking for trailers on a next-day or same-day basis, on a short-term or long-term basis.
Rental options are available nationally for the short term or the long term. With so much uncertainty surrounding the economy these days, more and more Cartwright customers are now trending towards renting in the short term before committing to expanding their fleet.
This growing trend has allowed Cartwright to expand its rental depot network. As well as Cardiff, Avonmouth and Bruntingthorpe the company also has sites in Manchester, Northampton and its head office in Altrincham.
Bob Pope, Regional Sales Manager, of Cartwright Rentals, said: "We are delighted to announce the opening of our new depot in Cardiff which also marks our first move into Wales.
"Cardiff is an excellent location for us to expand our business, allowing us to adequately cater for all of South Wales.
"We have had a fantastic response already, which proves the need for such a service.
"We are delighted with how quickly business at the new depot has taken off and look forward to building on this successful start in the coming months."

Cartwright Rentals Records Exceptional
Growth In First Six Months Of 2011
Date: 19 July 2011
The rentals arm of the Cartwright Group has enjoyed exceptional growth in the first six months of 2011, with business increasing by nine per cent year on year.
In fact, demand for rented trailers has seen such a rise among firms across the UK that the company has expanded its fleet by 200 trailers just since the start of this year. The total number of vehicles now stands at 4,650.
The growth is the result of several contracts both with new and existing clients. Of the new contracts, many are as a result of third party recommendations from existing customers. There has also been a steep rise in the number of enquiries via the Cartwright Group website.
Over the past six months the long term rental of high-quality refurbished trailers has increased in particular. Also during the same period the rising fuel costs has prompted added interest in double deck, urban and other fuel saving equipment. As a result of the endless increases companies across the UK are now wising up to various measures they can take with their trailer kits in a bid to shave fuel bills.
Paul Burn, Cartwright's Rental Sales Director, said: "Our customer base has grown more in the first six months of this year, than during the same period in the previous four years. The new contracts are mainly with larger manufacturing companies, national logistics companies and retailers.
"There is no doubt the rentals business is entering its busiest period yet and demand is high. In fact we are actually in the fortunate position where, with some fleet types, on the odd occasion demand has actually outstripped supply!"
Paul believes the continued high level of inquiries is a strong indication that there is no sign of a slowdown in the rentals market. Companies are moving towards a trend of operating a mix of build and rental with the latter now more commonplace than ever before as firms look to cut unnecessary costs during slower markets.
Cartwright Rentals Operation Enjoys Record Growth
Date: 10 January 2011
The Rentals Division at the Cartwright Group is enjoying record growth.
Cartwright Rentals Sales Director Paul Burn revealed that year on year the division had seen a 12 per cent increase in utilisation with the fleet growing by about 10 per cent.
"It has been absolutely fantastic. Rental interest is absolutely flying and we are hitting record levels in all aspects of the business," he said.
The specialist division of Cartwright Rentals has been particularly successful with increased business in double deck and urban trailers in addition to standard curtainsiders.
Paul Burn continued: "There has been a major trend moving towards renting urban trailers to replace rigids. There are obvious advantages including flexibility and versatility - getting better utilisation from your tractor units. The benefits both in terms of reducing the carbon footprint and costs through less vehicles and drivers are additional bonuses.
"The trend towards urban trailers has been growing for about 18 months and we are fortunate to have a large fleet to meet the demand.
"Indeed our range of trailer products is probably the most diverse in the UK. It is a true one stop shop and one source solution, whether you require a trailer rental for just a day or for the longer term - we can accommodate the peaks and troughs of any customer," he said.
Many operators decide to rent trailers before they take the decision to go to the build option. Paul Burn commented: "Rental is a quick way into Cartwright product. A lot of customers then take the route to full build and some have a mix of both build and rental to manage their business fluctuations. We believe we are the only manufacturer who can provide that service."
The Cartwright Rentals Fleet will expand in the first quarter of the New Year when 300 trailers are added to its total rental trailer offering which currently numbers about 3500 trailers. This will include refrigerated equipment, double deck trailers and a mix of other trailer products including specialist trailers with dual compartments.
Paul Burn continued: "We have seen a big increase in the demand for double deck equipment which has gone hand in hand with increasing fuel prices. People are becoming smarter about the way they operate their trailer kit.
"It has been driven by the big supermarkets and the big retailers with everyone following their lead."
The Cartwright Rentals chief predicted that the growing trend towards urban trailers would continue into 2011. "That is clear by the increasing number of enquiries and the feedback we are getting from the customers."
Cartwright has recently opened a new Rental site at Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire and Phil Rodman Operations Director of Cartwright Rentals says the new site "has hit the ground running and is already very successful."
He disclosed that Cartwright is now actively looking at new sites to expand the Rentals business, in the south near London and also in the North - East.
"We are in growth mode and no other trailer rental company is expanding faster. This year will almost certainly be a record year for Cartwright Rentals," he said.
Paul Burn added: "There is a Cartwright difference in that we are a true one source supplier of manufacturing, design, development, build, rental, finance and innovative solutions. No other trailer manufacturer can match that.
"Customers are definitely buying into our business model of a Rentals operation within a manufacturing company and the flexibility and versatility that offer gives you," he said.
Cartwright Rentals Expands Trailer Fleet And Network Of Sites
Date: 06 July 2010
The Cartwright Group's trailer rental operation continues to expand its trailer fleet and network of rental sites in the UK. Over the next four months the company's rental fleet will increase by 400 trailers in order to meet customer demand.
With a rental trailer pool of more than 3,000 trailers, Manchester based Cartwright is well positioned to have the resource and flexibility to meet the urgent and seasonal demands of customers who may require additional trailers the next day - or even the same day - to meet their business requirements.
Cartwright Rentals is also increasingly finding that new or prospective customers are going for the rental option before they make the commitment to make their decision about trailer build orders. Furthermore operators can see immediate benefits by renting a trailer as contract terms with customers have shrunk.
Cartwright has expanded its rental depot network with the recent opening of a new site in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire to add to rental sites at Cartwright's head office in Altrincham, in addition Manchester, Avonmouth and Northampton. Phil Rodman Operations Director for Cartwright Rentals commented: "We welcome the addition of our new site in Bruntingthorpe. The growing demand for used trailers alongside our rental commitments has led to this expansion.
"Our specialist trailer rental division sees our large fleet of double deck trailers of about 350 join forces with our mechanical handling equipment."
Phil continued: "Added to this is our growing fleet of urban delivery trailers, which in the summer this year will expand dramatically with the new investment in new single and urban double deck trailers.
"We have been doing rental and lease for a long time. And the rental market is expanding. Operators can't get long-term commitments from customers. A 12 month contract is now a good one and a five year contract is gold dust."
One market area that the Cartwright Rentals team have exploited is the double-deck market. Phil Rodman said the company is continually experiencing increased demand for double deck trailers and urban delivery trailers in the rental market. To keep up with demand the company has invested in a new fleet and will take delivery in August. They include 11 metre city urban trailers, dry freight and refrigerated, featuring twin axles, rear tail lift and rear steer. Due to the significant interest in urban double deck trailers a number of 11 metre urban double deck trailers will be joining the fleet.
He says: "The utilisation of double-deck trailer fleets is 95 per cent all year round. We are adding more double-decks to the rental fleet.
"The opposite end of the scale is modifying products for urban work as operators look to maximise tractors and productivity and delivery with short wheel-base urban trailers."
He adds: "There aren't many single and tandem axle urban trailers about, but they are becoming popular again, as an alternative to rigid bodywork.
The Cartwright rental range includes a diverse fleet of trailers and equipment available to rent:
Standard Range:
Curtainsider Trailers
Box Van Trailers
Refrigerated Trailers
Skeletal and Flatbed Trailers
Specialist Range;
Double Deck Trailers
City and Urban Trailers
Intermodal Swap Bodies
Mechanical Handling
Cold Stores

He added: "We are delighted with the response to the new centre so far and look forward to expanding into London later in the year."
Pope's Presence In The South A Blessing For The Cartwright Group
Date: 01 July 2009
The Cartwright Group has moved quickly to employ Bob Pope as its main man in the south.
Pope has been appointed Cartwright's regional sales manager for the south of England. He will be based at the company's depot in Avonmouth.
London-born Pope, who has more than four decades' experience in the trailer business, comes to The Cartwright Group after stints with Hill Hire, Boalloy and Fruehauf. His first objectives are ensuring the smooth operation of the just-opened Avonmouth site and boosting the already successful contract and spot rental of Cartwright Rentals.
Pope said: "This position is an exciting challenge as The Cartwright Group is in a great position, with it being a one-stop shop for everything.
"I've always been impressed by Cartwright products. It is a family firm based on good principles. Everything they produce is built on their premises under their close quality control.
"I have been in this industry all my working life and I am relishing the challenge of showing customers and potential customers the quality products that this company makes."
Steven Cartwright, director of The Cartwright Group, said: "With our new site in Avonmouth and the increased success that we are enjoying it made perfect sense to try and get someone of the quality of Bob Pope to cover the south for us.
"We were delighted that we were able to bring him on board. He offers experience, expertise and the flair for sales that will be good news for us and our customers."
Cartwright Rentals Expands In The South And Online
Date: 08 June 2009
The Cartwright Group has expanded its rentals operation, creating both a new southern base and a national online service for customers.
Cartwright Rentals, the trailer rental arm of the Altrincham-based trailer maker and body builder, opens its new base at Severn View Industrial Park in Avonmouth on July 1. And the company's new web portal allows all its rental customers instant online access to every detail about the equipment they are renting.
The Avonmouth site is the latest development in Cartwright Rentals expansion. It already has its own dedicated five-acre site in Manchester, a satellite location in Glasgow and a branch operation in Northampton.
Director Steven Cartwright said that the new, one-acre site was a response to the company's growing customer base.
He added: "We were looking for a suitable location to help us meet growing customer demand.
"Just like our other locations, Avonmouth can offer the customer rental, finance, parts and of course the Cartwright product range.
"We are finding more and more that our customers like the fact they can deal direct with the manufacturer for short and long-term rental, as well as contract hire. Avonmouth allows us to be on hand for customers in that area.
"Our customers are happy there is no middleman. And we have developed on that idea by creating the web portal, so that it is even easier for customers to deal directly with us."
The web portal enables Cartwright Rentals customers to view and manage fleet information online. Information such as service records, MOT certificates, trailer operating locations and rental costs is available instantly. The portal can also be modified to suit a customer's exact requirements.
In 15 years, Cartwright Rentals has grown from providing long-term rental to a select few customers to its current capability of providing short or long-term trailer rental and operating lease. It now operates a fleet of over 8,000 trailers.
